Meeting Ups

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 - A Conversation with Author Dave Corbett

7:30  pm  - Druker Auditorium - Newton Free Library

A conversation with David Corbett, founder of New Directions and author of Portfolio Life: The New Path to Work, Purpose, and Passion After 50 We’re thrilled to welcome Dave back to DWN to discuss his new book, a compelling alternative to the standard transitions to retirement.  If you’re age 50-75, you’ll soon start hearing about something called a “life portfolio,” a way to balance your time and energy among competing needs and dreams.  Come and become familiar with this new concept from the guy who invented it, a true friend of Discovering What’s Next™.

Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - Get Ready, Get Set....Downsize!

2:00  - 3:30 pm DWN Hub (3rd floor of Newton Free Library)

Get ready, get set … downsize!  Judy Hersh, a Newton-based professional organizer, will address the often daunting project of making a move to a smaller, simpler home.  Find out how to plan for it, steps to prepare in advance, resources for help selling, donating, or disposing of items that won’t make the move, and how to divvy up (equitably!) items among family members.  Space is limited for this, so sign up at info@discoveringwhatsnext.com or call the DWN Hub at 617-796-1419.

Tuesday, January 30, 2007 - Remembering the Lessons of the USS Pueblo

7:30  pm Druker Auditorium - Newton Free Library

In January, 1968, the USS Pueblo was captured by North Korean armed forces.  Gerry Tishler, an Army Judge Advocate in Korea during 1967-1968, will give a presentation on this event, during which the ship, top-secret surveillance equipment, and highly classified documents were captured in international waters, and the crew of 83 men was imprisoned and brutally tortured for 11 months before being released.  Gerry, a DWN member, promises a discussion that will undoubtedly bring up striking similarities to today.

Meeting-Ups are free of charge. Please RSVP by emailing
